Parent Power Training Information
I am writing this brief letter to ask for your support in a sharing an upcoming training opportunity for parents. The McDowell Health Coalition and teen pregnancy prevention work group are sponsoring two hour training for parents called: Parent Power, Tips Parents Need to Know and Do to Help Prevent Teen Pregnancy. The training is targeted to parents with children in grades six through nine. We are fortunate to have a dynamic and professionally trained Health Educator lead the training. The trainer, Mr. Kwain Bryant is familiar with McDowell County having facilitated the 2010 Task Force on Teen Pregnancy Prevention. Providing parent training was a high priority recommended in the Task Force report. In addition, Mr. Bryant has been a presenter and worked with students that attended McDowell High School. Child care supervision will be provided for young children (pre-school and younger). Topics included in the training are: Exploring values around teens and sex, current teen sexuality and teen pregnancy data, how to talk with your teen about sexuality, love and relationships, the kind of questions teens ask and guidelines for answering the questions and parent empowerment.
I have attached half and full page fliers announcing the event locations and times. You will find color copies or black/gray scale for copying purposes. We appreciate your support and sharing this opportunity with parents you have contact with in your organization.
